The recent harvest has proved to produce, by and large, good to very good quality coffees owing to favourable ripening conditions. Dry weather encouraged sweetness, and occasional rain helped keep things going. Some areas missed the rain and there has been 1 or 2 reports of tree deaths as a result. Yields have been low to medium. Some very early ripening did cause some losses and harvesting complications – compounded by a bit of uneven flowering very early in the season. There have been a number farms that have experienced invasion from bat colonies that appear to have discovered crops after being forced away from their normal food sources due to the severe drought conditions across the country this year. One farm reports losses of up to 1/3 of their crop owing to bats – this being prime red cherry. Again, some good quality coffee this year and good flowering events for the coming season.
